WWII SHORT
Introduction
World War II is a repeat of World War I. Happens from 1939-44. This is the one with Hitler.
The holocaust, 6 + 5 million
It shows how horrible a country can be. All potential uglyness of government. It is the turning of government into a hate
machine.
It happens on two fronts the Asian and the
European. In the European front The
Nazis in German are the enemy. In Asia
the Japanese are the enemy.
we’ve talksed of the three post industrial ideas
that have been fought over.

Fascism
Fascism is
government for national power.
4 parts of fascism
1-
Nationalism
What is bigger an
individual or a nation? A nation.
Can an individual survive without a group? No.
The modern group being a nation.
Can a nation survive without an individual? Sure!
So you need the nation more than it needs
you.
Wouldn’t you be willing to do something to help
that nation then?
Ask if we
might not get the School stronger by shooting a few people? Is the school not more important than the
individuals in it? WOULD IT?

Read HITLER PSYCHOLOGY HANDOUT
The center of liberalism is indiidualism.
Nazi - Fascist philosophy and practice are a
complete denial of individualism . The
leader and the individual are to be totally identified with the country.
Nazi - Fascism emphasized the poeple collectivly. The german people are one.
CAN ANY GROUPS EXIST OUTSIDE OF THE STATE?
The breakdown of the state into conflicting
groups weakened it. Capital and labor,
Protestant and Catholic, political parties all weakened.
Nothing exists outside the state. The state is the indivisible totality of
everything within the nation.
The primary function of every individual , club,
church, school scientific socity, businsess is thus the political one of
service tot the state.
In other
countries the individual exists for the government/nation
In this
country the government exists for the nation.

democracy
Are people all equal? Really?
If we made you President would you have a
clue? Remember einstein.
Equal at sports?
Equal at Math? Equal at
what?!?!?!
It takes a beautiful kind of soul to recognize
rank. To recognize that you may have it
but that some are better than you and that is beauty.
A noble dignified person recocgizes and obeys
rank. Gross people dismiss it and try
to bring everything down to their level.
They touch everything with their grubby hands.
Equal at rights?
We already Established that rights come from the Nation.
Some people are just better than others. Some people are retards. They watch TV alot and they suck. They have no ability.
Democracy is the rule by the mob, the
uneducated. A good leader cannot be
bothered by the opinion of a million retards.
This is not a sign of strength.
Remember Nietzsche.
If some are better than others, then the nation
is strongest when the leaders lead.
The courageous despot who demonstrates his hold
upon the masses is the one fit to rule.
And he must be able to tell the weak what to do.
He must rule by fear not love and
humanitarianism.
This kind of power will make the nation
strong.
Young men possessed of the desired traits were
prepared through Nazi youth organizations and special schools for positions of
political and military leadership.

Isnt’ what
is good for business good for you?
The businesses ran the government under hitlers
control.
Previous to his rise the ruin of the economy and
credit given to big industry by the central government meant that big
industries swallowed up little ones.
Congress in this country is made up of the House
of Representative and the Senate.
House of rep is by population and senate is by
state.
Hitler
strengthened the cartels. Strikes and
competition against them was made illegal.
All had to join them. And they,
with the minister of economic Affairs, could stop others from doing anything
they thought wronged them or the nation.
AND he strengthened the states control over
them. He gave the Minister of Economic
Affairs discretion over their

There was a jewish world conspiracy to master the
world. The Jewish weapons were
communist revolutions, moral degradation, financial control, pacifism,
democracy and internationalism. “The
beginning of this plot was to subdue the Germans, but hitler had caught on.
Read - Consequences of RACIAL CROSSINGS HANDOUT
The Nazis believed that race is the prime
determinant in society. Pure Aryans are
inherently superior and are biologically destined to rule over Slavs, Latins,
Negroes and Jews. But Jews in
particular contaminate a society.
Slavs were “barbarians” and Jews “Sub - Human”
Hitler began by dismissing “non-Aryans” from
official, military and professional posts in 1933.
He
immediately started propoganda campaigns concerning the supremacy of the
germans or aryans.
A non aryan being defined legally to include
anyone with one Jewish granparent or anyone who married non-aryans.
HITLER ON RACE THEORY
The government got mobs to attack jews and their
property. In 1935 they were deprived of
citizenship and many were put in concentration camps.
They took Jewish businesses, financial and
professional interests and gave them to “Aryans”.
The Germans were to conquor all lesser peoples of
europe.
Any germans who objected to this were also put in
prison or in confinement.

After the war the Weimar republic took over. Germany was in terrible economic straights.
As part of reparations the French occupied a very
important economic part of Germany, the rurh valley for economic purposes
The Weimar said that there should be passive
resistance. Don’t cooperate. But this led to only worse economic
conditions and political problems.

The country started to have a lot of extreme
parties. One of these was the National
Socialist Workers Party. Mostly known
as the Nazis. Hitler was the 7th person to join this party
and quickly took it over.
Hitler designed the flags and took the lead in
making ideas and posters and mostly led due to great speaking.

MAKE A MAP OF EUROPE!!
War starts
Hitler constantly brough Europe to the brink of
another world war. But the Allies tried
appeasement: Doing anything but
going to war to avoid war.
The league of Nations held the peace through the
1920s. The Kellog Braind pact got 60
nations to say they would only fight in Defence (including Britain and France).
Japanese
But first the Japanese showed the League of
nations weak by attacking Korea. They
took it in 1905. They seized Manchuria in 1932. Italy and Germany were the only
countries that recognized Manchuko. In
1938 Japan left the league of nations.

Japan had a history of Samuri fighters. They attcked and took Korea in 1905. They seized Manchuria in 1932. Italy and
Germany were the only countries that recognized Manchuko. In 1938 Japan left the league of nations.
Italy
In 1935 Italy attacked ethiopia and the league
applied economic sanctions. They would
starve Italy out. But many exceptions
were made to the total blockade.
Italy quit the League in 1937.
Mussolini actually invents fascism. He coined the phrase and comes to power in
October of 1922.
Itlay was on the winning side of WWI. But despite high cost and effort, their
military results were small.
They came out of the versailles treaty without
much.
Economics were bad in Italy (despite
vicotry) Farmers and industrial
workers, under the influence of communism and the bolshevik success, started
seizing property.
He sided with the capitalist rich and church and
order. Yet he was an ex-marxists and so
new the rhetoric that enthralled the working class and got their alliance.
His popularity and streetgangs got the King to
make him Prime Miister in 1922.
He made the party with the plurality get two
thirds of Parliament seats and so by 1928 ended real democracy. He then appointed officials for life.
He made unions illegal. workers and bosses had to
join the state and work with its solutions.
Italy was not to be split.
The fascist formula for economic success is
military and public works spending. So
he talked alot of crap about bringing rome back and attacked and barely held
Ethiopia.

Spain
Spain had from 33-39 a war between the Communists
and the fascists and the anarchists.
Italy and Germany backed the fascists and in 1939 Franco became the
Fascist leader of Spain.
Germany
First he scrapped the treaty of Versailles.
(1935) saying he would develop an army in excess of 100,000 men. Then he marched into the demilitarized
Rhineland are (1936).
In 1936 he signed a treaty with Japan against
Russia. Japan was ruled more and more
by the military from 1905 on. By 1931
it was a fascist country.
In 1936 and 1937 Hitler and Mussolini supported
Franco’s fascist takeover of Spain (1939).
Fascist Franco ruled Spain until 1975.
Now Western Europe had 3 fascist countries.
Hitler took back Part of France (Rhineland,
1937). He said it was german and they
should have it. He did this at a time
when Frances government was having an internal crisis.
In 1938 he seized Austria. He first started with newspaper and radio
propoganda then had intimidating conferences with political leaders. Then he concentrated and marched in Nazi
troops and finally had a triumphal entry with all cheering.
Then he announced he would rescue Germans in the Sudaten
land of Czechoslovakia. This looked
like world war because Czechoslovakia said it’d fight. And france said they’d go to war to defend
Czechoslovakia. Neville Chamberlin
convinced them that war was bad and that there were Germans in it.
With Germany and Mussolini they worked out the
dividing of Czechoslovakia. In return
Hitler promised to let the rest of it be independent. Czechoslovakia had been betrayed. Hitler lied.

During the war, scientists in the united states
learned that the germans were working on a bomb that came from spliting an
atom. Nuclear force. This was known as the atom bomb.
Albert Einstein wrote a letter to FDR telling him
that he should start a research project to develop this weapon. This really hurt Albert Einstein as he was
very much a believer in god and peace.
This bomb’s abilites were unknown and could end the world. The Manhattan project was secretly started.
We had two big battles trying to get to islands
close enough to japan to start an invasion.
These island were okinawa and Iwo Jima. They fought so hard. They fought so hard that we concluded
that we would lose 100,000 men invading
Japan. One of those would have been my
grandfather.
Stalin said he would help attack japan, but by
May 8th had made no moves to do so.
The American decision to drop the bomb became the
Last and Most controversial decision of the war.
Some scientists wanted to just threaten and hope
that was enough. Truman didn’t think
so.
Another idea was to just stage a demonstration. But would the bomb actually work? A technical failure would convcince them to
fight harder. And either way, would a
demonstration work? Truman decided to
drop it without warning.
The enola Gay dropped the bomb on Hiroshima on
August 6th but they didn’t give up.
130000 dead, as many wounded and 81% of their
buildings destroyed.
On August 9th the second was dropped on
Nagasaki. This took 60,000
lives. But even then it took 5 days to
surrender unconditionally.
The bombs cost 130,000 lives. The soviets got into the war for the last 7
days (after hiroshima) and so claimed all of mongolia. Thought being that the 2nd bomb was dropped
to impress Russia, not Japan.
We didn’t see how frightening a nuclear monopoly
was to the russians.
POST- WAR
1) Nuremburg trials
2) With the end in sight
Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin met at Yalta in the Crimea in February of 1945
to discuss plans for defeated Germany.
a)They decided to divide Germany into four occupational zones (British,
French, russian and american with a joint control commission in Berlin)
b)They also agreed to have a conference in San
Franscisco in April to write a constitution for a permanent international
organization: the United Nations.
c) The negotiators at Yalta also recognized the
Russian right to reorganize eastern Europe, to which Churchill and Roosevelt
really had no alternative unles they were prepared to drive the Russians fro
eastern Europe by force. And that would
have been unthinkable given the popularity the russians had gained during their
desperate defense against invasion, not to speak of a war with Japan yet to be
won.
Historical reasons made
the West accept Russia as an ally, but there was a price to be paid.
TWO RESULTS OF WW II
1) THE UN
United Nations
Origin
The real origin of the UN lies in the history of the west. This uniquely western ideal of rights. It comes from Greece and Christianity and
the Enlightnement and the US constitution and later the french revolution and
their constitution.
The worst enemy is of course war.
After WWI the League of nations was created.
It eventually had 60 nations in it.
It was concerned with rights on many levels. Rights of refugees and stateless persons, political cultural or
religious minorities. It helped millions
of refugees and achieved rights for
some poeople.
But world war two, first by japan and then by
mussolini then by hitler, had shown the League to be weak and the idea of human rights not to be universal.
In 1945 WWII was clearly coming to an end. With the end in sight Churchill, Roosevelt,
and Stalin met at Yalta in the Crimea in February of 1945 to discuss plans for
defeated Germany. They also agreed to
have a conference in San Franscisco in April to write a constitution for a
permanent international organization: the United Nations.
Millions had died in that war and millions were
homeless, cold and hungry. The peopple
of the whole world wanted a lasting peace.
All the countries that were dominated by other countries wanted freedom
and justice.
This was what started the United Nations.
The NAZIs made everyone see what horrors can
occur if rights are taken away.
